fighting the good fight against oppression

bitch-media:

report from the National Transgender Discrimination Survey conducted by the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force and the National Center for Transgender Equality, found that transgender people faced double the rate of unemployment of the general population, with 63 percent of the transgender people surveyed reporting they experienced a serious act of discrimination that majorly affected their ability to sustain themselves. These numbers are even worse for trans people of color, especially trans women of color, the deaths of whom have been deemed a “state of emergency.”

Trans women have been saddled with the responsibility of taking on trans-exclusionary feminists for far too long—but it’s not their issue to deal with alone.

Sign this Petition for open investigation into Judging Decisions of Women’s Figure Skating and Demand Rejudgement at the Sochi Olympics.
In a nutshell: Kim Yuna won silver at the Sochi Olympics this year and Adelina Sotnikova, who is a Russian, won gold. What made people so outraged is the fact that one of the judges’ sheets gave Yuna a score of 0 when it was nearly perfect. she still shouldn’t have gotten a 0, even if it’s not a perfect score. Sotnikova, who made a more visible mistake than Kim, received a higher score, which leads to speculation that the judges were biased. signing this petition will mean an investigation into the scores. This was Kim Yuna’s last year competing at the Olympics. "She never got the points she deserved, and she will never be able to break her ownrecord.” (Via michelle Pyo on fb) heartbreaking, when breaking our own record is what drives the majority of the human population.
I do not have anything against adelina. i believe that she deserved a medal. However, if the reinvestigation happens, then in the case that things were judged fairly, nothing would change and people would be appeased and happy. if the judging was unfair, then everyone would get the scores they deserved. :)

This week, Tunisia passed a truly historic constitution widely heralded as a progressive and monumental document. Here’s just some of what these brave elected representatives agreed upon in the face of strong pressure from the more extreme factions of their parties:
Guaranteed equality between men and women
A constitutional mandate for environmental protection, only the third country in the world to do so
A declaration that health care is a human right, with preventative care and treatment for every citizen
A democracy with civil laws that respects freedom of religion
An established right to due process and protection from torture
In one stroke,
Tunisia’s become more democratic than many Western countries have been for years. This is a revolution of democracy and a great victory for human rights — and the more we recognize that, the more Tunisia can shine as an example for the Western and the Arab world!Congratulate the Legislators!MESSAGE FOR TUNISIAN LEGISLATORS: We , the citizens of the world, applaud your bravery in making a strong commitment to universal human values in your constitution. People deprived of democracy around the world look to you to set the example of human rights and democratic principle — hold true to the promises made in this revolutionary document! (via Three Cheers for Tunisia’s Revolutionary Constitution!)

Love. Now stop tryna frame Africa as some depraved, backward continent.
